Interoperability between information systems concerning electronic records of patients

The problematic over the interoperation between institutions in underdeveloped countries always presents good opportunities for science to contribute to substantial improvements in the real-world issues. The basic support systems such as the health institutions are among the ones that can most benefit from scientific advances. This paper reports an analysis done over the interoperability between health institutions, specifically regarding the interaction between medical centres and clinical laboratories where the main interoperability instrument is the patient record. This research was validated with a real practical use case that is presented in this paper. In order to make the information stored in different software applications of the national health system (SIS), more specifically in the Dr. Ayres de Menezes hospital, in the country of São Tomé and Príncipe, interoperable with the information systems of the clinical laboratories that support the hospital, two different applications were developed (Patient Management System and Clinical Analysis Laboratory Management System) to implement the interoperability between them. The Patient Management application requests medical exams from your Medical Appointment dashboard. The second application receives the exam request and after exams are processed and validated, the second system sends the result to the requesting application. To make the interoperability service effective, the SOAP protocol was used, which allowed the exchange of information synchronously between these two applications, allowing for faster transactions of patients' pathological data, and greater confidentiality of this same information.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Simulations of a mortality plateau in the sexual Penna model for biological ageing

The Penna model is a strategy to simulate the genetic dynamics of age-structured populations, in which the individuals genomes are represented by bit-strings. It provides a simple metaphor for the evolutionary process in terms of the mutation accumulation theory. In its original version, an individual dies due to inherited diseases when its current number of accumulated mutations, n, reaches a threshold value, T. Since the number of accumulated diseases increases with age, the probability to die is zero for very young ages (n = T). Here, instead of using a step function to determine the genetic death age, we test several other functions that may or may not slightly increase the death probability at young ages (n < T), but that decreases this probability at old ones. Our purpose is to study the oldest old effect, that is, a plateau in the mortality curves at advanced ages. Imposing certain conditions, it has been possible to obtain a clear plateau using the Penna model. However, a more realistic one appears when a modified version, that keeps the population size fixed without fluctuations, is used. We also find a relation between the birth rate, the age-structure of the population and the death probability.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev.

Técnicas de agrupamento aplicadas no mapeamento da divergência genética de subpopulações de Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze em Irati, Pr e Caçador, SC por marcadores isoenzimáticos.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a divergência genética entre subpopulações de Araucaria angustifolia por marcadores isoenzimáticos. Foram amostradas árvores em Irati, PR e Caçador, SC e, para cada árvore, foram avaliados seis locus e observados os alelos do endosperma e dos embriões (homozigotos e heterozigotos). Os resultados foram explorados por técnicas multivariadas de Análise de Agrupamento em que as semelhanças entre as unidades experimentais foram obtidas pelas medidas Euclidiana e Manhattan. Os métodos de ligação usados na construção dos grupos foram: Ward, Vizinho Mais Próximo e Ligação Média. Observou-se a menor divergência genética entre as amostras das subpopulações de Floresta Intocada e Floresta Explorada em Irati, e Capão 3 e Capão 4 em Caçador. A Floresta Plantada em Irati e as subpopulações de Capão 1 e Capão 2 em Caçador foram as regiões mais críticas para conservação
